SNP Manifesto Pledge on Creating an Energy Company for Scotland That Never Happened
But the SNP Government still spent over £500,000 of taxpayer's money on the development that never came into being. The SNP ploughed money into 'expert' think tanks, economic consultants and hours of preparing a 'business plan'.
The big idea was first floated by the SNP in 2017 when it pledged to have a 'State Owned' not-for-profit energy provider in Scotland, operating by autumn 2021.
A big idea that never got off the ground as money was spent on developing the scale and scope of the venture but without looking at world markets or considering how such a company would be funded, would be able to compete with existing providers and could take over or buy out the existing energy supply network.
Things have changed, some smaller energy suppliers in the UK have gone out of business, most recently and energy supply company that was based in Edinburgh.
The business planning, building the business case, expert opinions a total spend of over £519,000, wasted on a project that never happened.
This was exposed by a Freedom of Information request, otherwise the SNP would have kept this situation hidden from Scottish voters..
