How Many Languages Were Used to Swear in New MSP's at Holyrood?

The swearing in of new MSP's at Holyrood after the May 2026 elections you would think would be in English, Doric or Gaelic to represent the official languages of Scotland, but no, there were more languages being used to take the oaths of office than ever before.

The 'Scotsman' newspaper reported that;

"Parliament's diversity on show as 14 languages used to swear in new MSPs"

Including Urdu, Arabic, Hindi, Polish, Dutch, French, Mandarin and Shona.

"The ceremony also featured oaths and affirmations in various languages, with multilingual MSPs able to recite the oath in another language after English."

"Yi-Pei Chou Turvey, the newly elected Liberal Democrat MSP for North East Scotland, recited her oath in English, Mandarin, and French."

The journalist at the Scotsman obviously thinks this was a good thing and enthusiastically reported.

"Other languages from all over the world were used too, demonstrating the truly multicultural parliament that has been elected. This included British Sign Language (Karen Adam), Arabic (Scottish Labour leader Anas Sarwar, Irshad Ahmed and Zen Gani), Dutch (Sanne Dijkstra-Downie), Polish (Kayleigh Kinross-O’Neill), Zimbabwean Shona (Maggie Chapman) and Hindi (Simita Kumar)."

And Nicola Sturgeon continues to duck and dive the questions....

And more than a week later, this is still the case!

In all her media interviews Nicola Sturgeon plays the victim and claims to have been completely in the dark about what her husband, Peter Murrell was doing with SNP funds.

Sturgeon conveniently ignores the facts that she was First Minister of Scotland and leader of the SNP at the time and Peter Murrell was chief executive of the SNP.
