Alex Salmond Not Guilty - Now the Infighting Begins in the SNP

Alex Salmond Found Not Guilty
Now the Infighting Begins in the SNP
The Knives are Out at Holyrood

Grim faced Alex Salmond outside the High Courts in Edinburgh - Not Guilty but now ready to take his revenge on former SNP comrades and certain civil servants.
Former First Minister of Scotland and ex-leader of the Scottish National Party Alex Salmond has been acquitted of all the charges placed against him after facing a total of 14 sexual offences, including 9 charges of sexual assault and one charge of attempted rape.
Salmond resigned as leader of the SNP over five years ago but has been involved in a number of legal battles with the Scottish government since, including winning a case against the Scottish government for the way it investigated Salmond's conduct while he was in office.
In the past the current First Minister Nicola Sturgeon was Alex Salmond's closest political ally and collaborator, but in the last year she has increasingly distanced herself from him as the sex crime charges became public and a trial date was set.
Interestingly some factions in the SNP backed Salmond 100% and claimed he was innocent and was being framed by political rivals in the SNP and civil service. Now cleared by the courts Alex Salmond is out for revenge and there are rumours of legal actions and formal inquiry into both the civil servants at Holyrood and elements within the SNP.
Scandal and further court cases could split the SNP and seriously damage the SNP politically.
No doubt Nicola Sturgeon and the SNP will hope that news-headlines about Corona-virus and emergency legislation will provide a smokescreen to hide behind.
So much for the integrity of mainstream politics in Scotland.

Another Foreign Import Scotland Could Do Without
As this blog is being published, a raft of new emergency measures are being drafted into law across the United Kingdom. The latest legislation intends to force a massive shut down on public gatherings, on businesses, on pubs and similar places.
So this will prevent political campaigns and activities, marches and rallies, live music gigs and outdoor events. Although the enforced 'lock down' is supposed to be for just three weeks (21 days), all the indications are that after the period of 'lock down', the police will retain their new powers for a minimum period of TWO YEARS !
So much for the pretence of a liberal democracy.
