BNSM Scotland: The Influx of 'asylum seekers' into Glasgow - It Just Proves that the policy of Multiculturalism is Wrong-headed.

Plus BM Scotland Views and Opinions.

SNP Declares 'Asylum Seekers Welcome' - 4,000  'Asylum Seekers' currently settled in Glasgow. But Keir Starmer's Representatives Fail To Turn Up for Glasgow Meeting

Glasgow City Council ‘struggling to cope’ with asylum housing

Glasgow houses around 4,000 asylum seekers which the council warned is too many to cope with.

Glasgow City Council has said the number of homeless refugees and asylum seekers is putting public services under too much pressure, and is struggling to cope with demand.

The city has built its reputation on being welcoming and open to people of all races and nationalities, proud of its “People Make Glasgow” brand.

However, the council’s statement on the issue has caused some to doubt that slogan.

It comes as a UK Government minister cancelled their attendance at a meeting on Monday morning with the Scottish Government, council and other representatives to discuss the situation in the city.

Glasgow houses around 4,000 asylum seekers, which the council has warned is too many to cope with.

The city has declared a housing emergency, with record numbers of homeless people living in temporary accommodation.

Labour government minister Angela Eagle failed to attend the meeting in Glasgow on Monday, April 7th 2025, which just shows the Westminster cabinets attitude towards the crisis in the city of Glasgow, and probably reflects its attitude to Scotland in general. It is OK for the Home Office to use 'Operation Scatter' to disperse 'asylum-seekers' out of southern England across the country and up into Scotland, but leaves it to Scottish authorities to sort out any problems.

And this unsurprising headline......

"Council leaders in Glasgow have hit out at the Home Office after Immigration Minister Dame Angela Eagle snubbed demands for an urgent meeting to discuss the number of asylum seekers and refugees coming to the city.

Councillors in the ruling SNP administration have warned that the issue is “damaging social cohesion” and putting “unprecedented pressure” on housing.

According to the most recent figures from the Home Office, of the 6,057 asylum seekers in receipt of support in Scotland, some 4,193 are in Glasgow."

JUST STOP SENDING THE SURPLUS POPULATION OF THE THIRD WORLD TO SCOTLAND!"

Meanwhile the Struggle to Save Grangemouth Refineries Continues. But the 'Net-Zero Obsessions at Westminster and Holyrood Threatens Jobs.

Grangemouth is Scotland's last remaining oil refinery complex, and as reported previously on BM Scotland, it is scheduled to be closed down for good in Summer 2025 with up to 500 jobs being lost on site with up to 2,500 jobs lost in related jobs. This will be a permanent and long term loss to Scotland's economy. Unless the situation changes soon, the permanent closure and job losses will happen.  The site is currently owned by the multi-national Petroineos company.                                                                                  Of course the Grangemouth refineries are nationally important to both Scotland and Britain as a whole but their existence does not fit in with the 'progressive' Left ideas on 'carbon-neutral' and eco-friendly industries in line with 'Net-Zero'.                                Not surprisingly, Ed Miliband,, the Labour government's Energy Secretary has once again demonstrated his clueless understanding of industry and real life economics by announcing a 'rescue' plan for the Grangemouth refinery complex. Ed Miliband has announced a plan for timber harvested from Scotland's pine forests to be brought to Grangemouth where the pine wood will be transformed into bio-ethanol via a fermentation process which would then be 'blended' into more eco-friendly fuels or be used to manufacture cosmetics and industrial chemicals.                                       Miliband has proposed that the Grangemouth site can be adapted as a 'low-carbon' industrial area, and his arm of government has pledged £225 million tax payer funds to carry out the bio-ethanol plan with the equally carbon-neutral obsessed SNP government at Holyrood committing £25 million from its budget to top up the scheme.

Of course, Ed Miliband is placing his usual lack of judgement on a report jointly produced by the Petroineos company and the Scottish government, which helpfully offered a total of nine different options for transforming the Grangemouth complex, and this could offer a future of up to 800 jobs (compared to 500 and 2,500 likely to be lost). This "feasibility study" cost a cool £1.5 million and included such gems of recommendation as; "The Grangemouth cluster is important to Scotland's economy and energy security, hosting a concentration of strategic energy infrastructure assets, a logistics hub and a highly skilled workforce, contributing £900m to the UK's economy annually."

Not surprisingly the current workforce and trade unions at Grangemouth are less than impressed by the academic and civil service jargon of the 'feasibility study.'  Even the usually Labour Party loyal Unite union has real doubts about Miliband's vanity/fantasy project for Grangemouth and has pointed out that a bio-ethanol plant for breaking down and fermenting pine trees into fuel would cost £430 million of tax-payer funding but would only create 50 to 60 jobs initially, possibly rising to 120 jobs if "Successful over the long term."  Another bright idea is to turn part of the site into a plastics re-cycling plant , which could create aviation fuel or packaging material. But that would cost Scotland's tax-payers up to £250 million annually. Other equally net-zero minded plans include a plant to convert vegetable oils into 'sustainable aviation fuels' or even 'renewable diesel fuel'. But that would cost £900 million to get started and operating.

Scotland does not need Ed Miliband's net-zero obsessions or the carbon-neutral fantasies of the SNP. It needs real energy security and real jobs.
